JioPhone Next launch delayed; Reason citing Global Chip shortage situation

Reliance at its annual general meeting (AGM) earlier this year announces to bring the new budget-friendly JioPhone Next. Moreover, the company has a partnership with Google for the development of a budget 4G smartphone with a customized version of Android. During the meeting, Chairman Mukesh Ambani said that this new JioPhone Next will launch on 10th September. But, on the day of the launch, both Jio and Google announce to push the launch date further. The Press release by both companies states that the smartphone will launch before Diwali.

Launch Date of JioPhone Next pushed further

Jio and Google, both companies inform about the delay of the JioPhone Next to the Press. The company further said that both companies have started the testing of an upcoming smartphone with a limited set of users. Moreover, the two tech giants are working to ensure that the device may be available for purchase before Diwali. Jio gave the statement that the additional time will help the company mitigate the current industry-wide global semiconductor shortage. The company does not reveal much about the ultra-affordable smartphone in its AGM 2021. However, the report says that Reliance Jio will make smartphones available for around 3499.

Moreover, according to previous leaks, the JioPhone Next will feature a 5.5-inch HD display with thick bezels around the screen. The device will draw power from a Qualcomm Snapdragon 215 SoC with 2/3GB RAM and 16GB/32GB storage configurations. Talking about the camera, the device will come with a 13MP rear camera with an 8MP front selfie camera. In addition, the device will have a 2500mAh battery and run on Android 11 (Go Edition) out of the box.
